Default Hey, just signed up...

I have a question that is in the FAQ but I'd like a better answer from an experienced beta player. I'm going to get straight to the point. I hate dual class rpg games, pen and paper, anything. I am not a big fan of it at all. Now the FAQ says that "there are no innate advantage or disadvantage" to being a single class char.

So is this true? I don't see how this could be if you get all the skills of both professions, seems to me being a single profession char would be like being 50% of your potential.

One last question, Is it possible to solo your way to 20?

Thanks for reading this, just wanted to know this as it will influence my decision of buying the game or not.

Cheers,

Syd.

I'll try to explain.

If you just pick one profession, you will not be able to use ANY secondary profession skills whatsoever.

However, if you pick a secondary profession you don't HAVE to use any of their skills.

You can pick a secondary and never use it if you want to, thus having a secondary doesn't innately cause you to lose anything on your primary.

The goal though, is to strike a healthy balance. Make your primary as great as you want it to be and throw in some of your secondary's skills, even if you don't put any training points into your secondary professions attributes, having some of the skills is better than not having them at all.

Does that make sense?

Yes that makes more sense to me, say a warrior/monk at lvl 20 vs a flat out warrior at lvl 20 went at it. Would the single class warrior be better at taking damage than the warrior/monk who has spread out his skill points?

Syd, I played a couple of hours of a beta test in solo mode and managed to get to level 3. I have heard tho that you can solo as much as you like but some areas and battles may be extremely difficult, if not impossible without aid from henchmen or other players. I suppose you could use the help when really needed and then continue alone if you so wish. Based on what I have played so far in solo mode the game is extremely enjoyable..I have preordered and am just waiting for the full version to arrive now.

I also heard (dunno if it's true) that there is an area or quest that requires a little PvP to get past.

really eh? That sounds pretty cool..I played it for a bit in really early beta but the game seemed sorta jumbled up. I used to play Asherons Call for 4 years, played WOW for a bit but didn't like the monthly payments or game all that much. This game looks interesting tho..how exactly is the PVP skill based? Is it whoever hits their attack button first or shoots off some spells or what?

That all depends on how the player has distributed their attribute points.
You could have a W/Mo whom has exactly the same attributes as a pure Warrior. The only difference is the W/Mo would have access to Monk skills.

As to soloing, it will be very hard to get through some missions entirely alone. But if you don't like other people, there are AI henchmen you can add to your group instead.

It would be more accurate to say it is tactics based. You get to take 8 skills into the battle, and it's all about how you choose and use them.

Nope- the henchmen are nice in a lot of respects- they'll attack who you attack, follow you around, and are nice and quiet. It's possible to get through most all of the game with just henchmen, with just one mission that I know of that you might run into difficulties having only one player on(other than just being more difficult without a full group of players, which can be overcome by playing well).
